Learn how to make your own backyard bloom into a mini-orchard. In partnership with Tree City, Strathcona Comunity Garden, and VCAN (Vancouver Urban Agriculture Network), EYA will again be offering Organic Fruit Tree workships this spring

PRUNING- Saturday, February 7th, 9:30-11:30 a.m
The first cut is the kindest…a look at the art and science of pruning. Participants will have an hour of theory and will then work in the garden’s apple orchard as a practical, hands-on exercise. Please dress appropriately - gumboots will be especially helpful. Maximun capacity is 25 people, registration is required; email Hartley at hartley@eya.ca

GRAFTING- Saturday, March 7th, 9:30-11:30 a.m
The science and art of apple grafting has continued from the ancient Greeks and Romans to today’s home hobbyists. Heritage apple varieties will be grafted onto dwarfing root stock. Bring a sharp knife (Swiss Army size) Maximum capacity is 10 people, registration is required; email Hartley at hartley@eya.ca.

Note: If you would like to take your tree home, cost will be $10. Otherwise trees will be donated to EYA’s Community Nursery Program and the Strathcona Community Garden.

Both workshops will be held inside the Eco-Pavillion at the Strathcona Community Garden, located on the South West corner or Hawks and Prior st. Call for further details or directions 604-689-4446
